Comments on his immigrant grandparents, and his parents; childhood and education in San Francisco; musical studies; trip to Mexico in 1899; medical education in Heidelberg; travel in eastern Europe; practicing medicine in California; medical work in the German Army and later with the U.S. Army during WWI; medical work in Russia in the early '30s, in Spain during the Civil War, in Nationalist and Communist China in the mid '40s in South America and elsewhere; the medical profession and his research in orthopaedic and thoracic surgery; his medical publications; retirement and farming in Mexico.
